Personal finance as a hobby

I’ve only noticed in the past week that I consider personal finance to be a hobby.  Go ahead and scoff, that’s such a nerdy thing to say that it deserves a scoff.

Probably just as a result of being goal oriented, most of my hobbies have an element of productivity to them in addition to being activities that I enjoy.  For example, running supports my health goals, cooking provides sustenance, crafting and art are for decorating and personal finance pays the bills.

I also like personal finance because it’s creative.  I get a kick out of finding unique ways to save money; like reusing dryer sheets and making weird “almost” meals with leftovers.

It’s very engaging and I can get wrapped up for hours calculating statistics like what percentage of my lifetime earnings have I saved or trying to figure out our lean fi number.  Who doesn’t love a good spreadsheet?
